Academic Qualification: Study of chemistry and biology at the university Tübingen 1969-1974, diploma in biology

Current Position: 1984-2012  head of department "Metabolic Physiology", faculty of biology, Johann-Wolfgang Goethe UNI, Frankfurt/Main

Other Activities: Dean of  faculty 1997-2000, (vize-) and director of the institute (1987-88), treasurer (1988-94), vize- and president of the Deutsche Ornithologen-Gesellschaft  (1994-2001), national delegate of the "Standing  Committee Int. Orn. Congr." etc.; corresponding member of the Swiss Orn. Society, elected member (only 50 persons) of the "Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft der UNI Frankfurt/Main”.

Acted as Referee for: DFG, scientific societies of Austria, Canada, Sweden etc., Comp. Biochem. Physiol., J. comp. Physiol., Oecologia, Behav. Ecol., The Auk and a lot of other journals; Scientific Evaluation Commission of  Niedersachsen etc.

Research Topics: Thermoregulation and energetics in animals, ornithology, ageing phenomena in animals, theory of ageing
